Why I Am Running for Mayor
18 years of calling Pickering home — and a commitment to listening to the people who make this city special.
My name is Zargham Rasool, and I have called Pickering home for the past 18 years. I have lived here with my family, built my life here, and watched our community grow and change.
For nearly two decades, I have listened to residents, families, workers, seniors, and young people. I have heard hundreds of promises about what our community needs, and I have also seen the challenges that residents continue to face.
I am running for Mayor because I believe Pickering deserves action, accountability, and leadership that listens to its residents.
I am not running because I believe I have all the answers. I am running because I am willing to listen, learn, work, and deliver. Our city needs leadership that is connected to the everyday experiences of the people who live here, not leadership that only appears during election time.
My vision is simple: a stronger, safer, more affordable, and more connected Pickering where families can build a future, seniors feel supported, young people have opportunities, local businesses can grow, and residents have confidence that their voices matter.
After 18 years of living, working, and serving in this community, I believe it is time to turn promises into progress.
